My husband was out working on our country property one evening and thought he heard a Whip-poor-will call. He phoned me so I could listen and confirm the call. Sure enough, it was one of these very elusive birds. Thank you for sharing such interesting information. Terrific photographs too!Julie G.https://www.blogger.com/profile/08552498284012539176noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5068198388134099737.post-61831053347770072612013-06-08T09:17:20.702-06:002013-06-08T09:17:20.702-06:00Thank you, Eileen! Unfortunately, I did not pay much attention to birds in those days, so I missed seeing many species that I would like to have in my records now. However, I distinctly remember hearing w-p-w calls from time to time near my house.Michael Ayershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03032838440930524751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5068198388134099737.post-44754355975699060792013-06-06T01:52:04.199-06:002013-06-06T01:52:04.199-06:00a delightful and informative post Hilke accompanie...a delightful and informative post Hilke accompanied with wonderful photosCarole M.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13261384312136535762noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5068198388134099737.post-17867854076583812182013-06-06T01:45:05.246-06:002013-06-06T01:45:05.246-06:00Very interesting post. We've recently taken to the dark skies as well over in Tucson and have found the Mexican Whip-poor-wills in great numbers, but more interesting were the once common Buff-collared Nightjars found around Southern Arizona. This year it appears perhaps more than one have returned to our area and what a sound! At one point, right at sunset, we heard Common Poorwills, the Buff-collared Nightjar and Mexican Whip-poor-wills! What an incredible thing to hear flying around us! Thanks for the info!Rohrerbothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02136631378931478644noreply@blogger.com
