I have seen the blue grosbeak several times in AZ but only got a passing glimpse of a Dickcissel on a BwBTC outing in CT last year near Wilton, CT! I would love to see one again and in breeding plumage this time, LOL!Kathie Brownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10377224759599266209noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5068198388134099737.post-1903782102138159632012-06-23T04:24:21.691-06:002012-06-23T04:24:21.691-06:00these are two life birds for me this year. You know, the pretty graphs, pictures, and maps. I get lost when it comes to all the work behind the pretty bottom line from the studies.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11333731452974780237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5068198388134099737.post-652001128317616062012-06-21T21:37:10.214-06:002012-06-21T21:37:10.214-06:00My first Blue Grosbeak was in some open woodland a...My first Blue Grosbeak was in some open woodland areas in Prescott, Arizona. Since then, I have only seen them a couple times in open fields with mid-size bushes nearby.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11333731452974780237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5068198388134099737.post-39107863144796875422012-06-21T19:49:02.722-06:002012-06-21T19:49:02.722-06:00Sounds like there's an overlap with Blue Grosb...Sounds like there's an overlap with Blue Grosbeaks into Dickcissel territory, both regarding range and local demography, but you won't find Dickcissel's everywhere you'll find Blue Grosbeaks (in AZ, for example).

Interesting nonetheless. However, I have seen Blue Grosbeaks in habitats that I would not associate with Dickcissels. Blue Grosbeaks are more adaptable than Dickcissels when it comes to habitat. Just wish I had more time to study such things - good stuff.donaldthebirderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01099741668535209996noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5068198388134099737.post-31760681431803054782012-06-21T17:33:44.383-06:002012-06-21T17:33:44.383-06:00I have reported on ebird my only blue grosbeak of ...I have reported on ebird my only blue grosbeak of the year so far and the Dicksissals are definitely abundant there: Ok state Cross county course just north of campus.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
