Midwest Birding Symposium: Morning Update

Spent the morning at the legendary Magee Marsh with awesome people mentioned last night as well as a group of local volunteer guides, reps from Nikon and Field Guides and Alvaro Jaramillo.  It was a lot of fun, and made more fun by being able to see seven bird species for my first time ever!

One tree had three lifers in it: Tennessee WarblerBlackburnian WarblerEastern Wood-Pewee

There were American Redstarts and Nothern Parula in the tree at the same time, plus a few other species I see regularly.

Down the boardwalk a bit, I was able to see my first Yellow-billed Cuckoo...and I spotted it on my own.  It even had a caterpillar in its beak, so it was a classic experience.  Swainson's Thrushes and Gray Catbirds abounded in this very location, along with another life...and Black-throated Blue Warbler.

We later added a handful of Blackpoll Warblers.  Finally at the Magee Marsh Bird Center I observed my first Indigo Bunting.

What a start!!!  and all this before 9:30am.

(sorry no pics yet...I only brought a point-and-shoot and I didn't want to check baggage)
