Neighborhood Wild Turkey
When we moved in to our home in Bountiful, Utah, I noticed immediately that our neighbors fed wild birds. This allowed me to break the ice with them by shamelessly confessing that I am a bird nut. My neighbors don't exhibit my crazed level of enthusiasm, but they still appreciate the birds and the fact that I can name each species in their yard. Letting your neighbors know that you are into birds may be a bit embarrassing, but it also has its rewards. Recently, our next door neighbor called and excitedly reported that a Wild Turkey was in their backyard. I dashed out and took these photos:

Wild turkeys are pretty wild, aren't they? ;)
ReplyDeleteWe live out in a rural semi-wooded area and the very first time I saw one perched on a guardrail it scared the daylights out of me. I was like "No, turkey - don't jump on my car" — as I was driving by the guardrail at the time. It was just so odd to see this massive bird not standing on the ground. Nature is wondrous

@Sarah - yep, a not-so-wild-Wild Turkey. We also have a herd of deer in the neighborhood that eat all my bird seed if I forget to take it in at night.

ReplyDeleteHe's pretty! There's a place where a couple of turkeys nest that's on my way to work. I always look for them in the mornings. Sometimes they're out there gawking at the cars. But I've never been able to get a good shot of one. :)

ReplyDeleteWhat fun to see a turkey on the roof! I like the idea of meeting people through bird watching. I'm sure my neighbors all think that I am nuts and a very messy neighbor with all my bird feeders, but I get a lot of enjoyment from them :-)
