Idaho Birding Hotspots: Mountain Home Reservoir

Western Sandpipers

Although southern Idaho has the Snake River running across it, most of southern Idaho is desert.  A string of desert reservoirs including Mountain Home Reservoir, Indian Creek Reservoir, and Black's Creek Reservoir is very inviting for shorebirds in spring and fall migration as well as for birders who love to see them.

Greater Yellow-legs

I have a brother recently stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base and I am delighted at the prospects of visiting him and his family, as well as the birding hotspots along the way!

Long-billed Dowitchers and Western Sandpipers

Red-necked Phalaropes - these were life birds for me!!!

  2. Hi Bob. Looks like your brother is going to have that spare bed on standby a lot. I cant match those exotic waders over here. Enjoyed the pics, especially those "fallahawks" as my wife once called them. Thanks for your kind words on my blog.
