Quick Update: Campout and Life Bird

View Banks Grade Rd - Campsite in a larger map

Just got back from a Father and Sons Campout with my son and my father.  I always enjoy those father-son bonding moments.  The campsite is a few miles up the mountain and west of Banks, Idaho.  I didn't even know you could go up the mountain on that side of the Payette River, but there is some nice country up that way.  This morning, Kyle and I took a leisurely drive on Grandpa's 4-wheeler up the road and we had a grouse slowly walking right in front of us.  I watched it for some time and took lots of notes.  When I got back to camp I checked the field guide and it was most certainly a Ruffed Grouse.  Life bird #325.  We saw 32 other species as well with the highlights being Stellar's Jay, Townsend's Warbler, Red-breasted Nuthatch, and loads of Chipping Sparrows.  We also came across four adult Canada Geese and about eight little goslings along the creek way up in the mountains.

  1. Life Bird 325? You are gaining on me! Perhaps I will get the Elegant Trogon next week when I visit Cave Creek canyon!
